How to use this calculator

Step 1: Look at the flare on the pull tab deal you want to check. The flare is the sign next to the jar or dispenser showing every prize tier and how many of each prize are in the deal.

Step 2: Enter the cost per tab (usually $1, $2, or $5) and the total number of tabs in the deal.

Step 3: Add each prize tier from the flare. For example, if the flare shows “2 winners of $250,” enter $250 and 2. Do this for every tier.

Step 4: The calculator instantly shows you the payout percentage (how much of the deals revenue goes back to players), the house edge (what the charity keeps for operations and their cause), and the expected value of each tab you buy.

What is a good payout percentage?

Most pull tab deals run between 75% and 85% payout. Minnesota law requires a minimum average payout of 75% across all deals a charity sells. Higher payout means better odds for the player, but it also means less money for the charity. Neither is inherently better. See our deep dive on pull tab payouts and odds for the full explanation.
